The “Taiji Master”
Ever heard of the Office “Taji Master”. You will find a lot of such characters in the office. They are very famous for pushing away responsibilities which are supposed to be done by them. With one powerful sweep of hand, the responsibilities will be sweep to other colleagues.
Recently, my colleague had an encounter with the “Taji Master”. Before the “Taji Master” flew off on a business trip. He had received some important emails from the clients asking for informations and he was supposed to reply them before he flew off. He just simply sat on the emails for a good whole week without even reply.
The cilents got tired of waiting and sent a reminder to him after one week. He was already on the plane and in order to pacify the cilents. His big boss reassigned another staff to follow up on the email. By then when the “Taji Master” is back, the matter was already resolved and settled.
Well, you will definitely say the big boss will not be happy with him. But you know what excuses the “Taji Master” had given. He was so busy to prepare the proposal for the potential cilents before he flew off. He couldn’t find the time to reply to the cilents. Well, toward this “Taji Master”, the big boss was forever forgiving. So in the end, the big boss told him. In future, if he is too busy to settle certain of his works before he goes on a business trip. Brief the assigned colleagues before he left to settle the works for him.
Because of this “Green Light” from the big boss. The “Taji Master” always have a lot of works not able to complete before he goes on a busines trip. So the poor colleague has to help him to settle all the works everytime.
My advice to this poor colleague of mine is to let this “Taji Master” to have a taste of his own medicine. Well, he will leave a lot of his works for you to cover him during his absence. Well, you don’t have a choice but to take on since it is assigned by the big boss. Go thru his works, those that are not having any deadline to meet. Take yr own sweet time to finish. Better still, if you can drag until he comes back. Return him the whole piece of work in the same condition as he gave to you before he goes off. By doing so, he will not take you for granted. There is always someone around to finish his works if he can’t complete.
If he gets angry, just tell him you are also very busy with your own works and not able to complete all his works. If he still wants to complain, just tell him to go ahead. Better still, go and settle in front of the big boss. Anyway, you are doing him a favour when he was not around. So he shld be more grateful instead of complain.
