It was a quiet and peaceful Thursday afternoon when suddenly, she informed one of her staffs to make a urgent booking for her to fly to Philippines on the same night. When reminded her that anyone who needs to enter Philippines on a business trip must apply for a Business Visa. She wanted the arrangement to be done immediately without even asking whether the Embassy is still open for visa application.
The staff told her that it is too late and the Embassy was closed for the day and she can only applied the Business Visa the next day morning. But she can only obtained her Visa back after 2 working days. No matter what, she cannot fly to Philippines either tonight or tomorrow. Moreover, in order to apply for the Visa, she had to go to the Embassy to apply personally. That really got her pissed off. She kept on questioning her staff why did she need to go and apply personally. The other Embassies that she had obtained her visa do not require personal interview. All the “WHY” questions were flung to her staff & in the end, it took almost 4 hours for her staff to explain to her.
The next day, she came back angry and frustrated from the Embassy. The Embassy rejects her emergency visa as they told her “since you are travelling on behalf of a company, how can you don’t plan your business trip unless you told me this concerned matter of life and death”. She can’t answer that as it was not. That gets her pissed off for another day. So in the end, she had not choice but to postpone her trip to next week.
In the end we came to know she needed to travel to Philippines is to brief the branch office on some new company policies and she will fly back from Philippines on the same night. The reason that she wanted to travel so urgently to Philippines is because she don’t want to burn her weekend in Philippines and yet at the same time, she wanted to impress her boss that she had done a fantastic job in conveying the new policies implementation to the branch office within a short time. Due to that, she turned her department upside down just to fulfill her own interests.
But don’t she knows with the advance technologies nowadays, there are a lot of methods she can conduct a face to face briefing with the branch office without the need to fly over & create all these unnecessary hassle for her staff.
